From 1 July 2026 the ATO no longer requires quarterly TFN reporting for closely held trusts. For most trusts the final quarterly report covered April to June 2026 and was due on 31 July 2026.

The ATO is decommissioning the service behind Closely Held Trusts TFN Report (TFNR) on 1 October 2026. Until 30 September 2026 you can still lodge a TFNR for any period up to the quarter ending 30 June 2026. After that you will not be able to lodge one, and the ATO has advised that prior-year reports will not be required.

Report beneficiary TFNs in the Statement of distribution of the Trust Tax Return (TRT) instead. From 2027 the trust tax return will include additional labels for beneficiaries who have not provided a TFN.

This does not change TFN withholding, and the separate Closely Held Trusts Annual Withholding Report (TFNWR) is not affected.

The 2026 tax season is almost here, and we’re pleased to share a few LodgeiT updates to help your firm get ready.

📄 Tax Forms 2026

The 2026 tax forms will be available in LodgeiT for the new tax season. LodgeiT will automatically create new forms for you in the coming days, carrying forward relevant field values from your 2025 returns where applicable.

Please note that pre-fill data will become available from 1 July 2026 as the ATO receives it. Most pre-fill information is usually available by late July.

💳 Activity Statement payments

Activity Statement card payments are moving from beta to general release.

From 1 July 2026, this feature will be enabled by default for all LodgeiT firms. If your firm does not want Activity Statement payments enabled for clients, you can turn this feature off now in settings.

Once enabled, clients can pay their ATO amount payable by card after they e-sign an Activity Statement in LodgeiT. The payment uses the PRN from the Activity Statement, so there is nothing extra for the client to look up or enter.

A processing fee applies and is shown to the client before they confirm payment.

This can help your firm by:

• Giving clients a simpler way to pay after signing
• Reducing follow-ups about payment details
• Directing payments to the ATO using the Activity Statement PRN

We've rolled out a new round of updates to support tax preparation, financial reporting and workpaper workflows in LodgeiT.

📄 AMIT tax return 2025

The Attribution Managed Investment Trust (AMIT) tax return for FY2025 is now available in LodgeiT, so you can prepare and lodge AMIT returns for the latest financial year directly from the platform.

📦 Export workpapers as PDF or ZIP

You can now export workpapers as either a PDF or a ZIP file, making it easier to share, archive, or review work outside LodgeiT.

• PDF export generates a clean, formatted document that can be saved, reviewed, or shared with clients and colleagues.
• ZIP export bundles the PDF together with the source documents attached to the workpapers, so the report and all supporting files are packaged into a single download.

🐄 Livestock schedule for financial reports (Pro only)

We've added a new Livestock Schedule to financial report templates for trading entities, including Company, Individual, Partnership, and Trust.

The schedule appears as a dedicated page in the financial report and is available in Financial Reports Pro only. You'll need to fill it in manually, which gives you full control over how livestock movements, valuations, and balances are presented.

👤 Individual tax return improvements

We've made a range of improvements to Individual Tax Returns, including expanded ATO pre-fill coverage along with several calculation and validation fixes.

More ATO data is now pre-filled across PAYG, superannuation, PSI, and work-related expense fields (FY2020 to FY2025), which reduces manual entry and helps ensure returns start from accurate, ATO-supplied figures.

We've also improved ITR accuracy and lodgment handling, with fixes covering the PSI 80% rule, WRE car balancing adjustments, negative lump sum tax offsets, spouse income where FHSS does not apply, and Medicare Levy Surcharge edge cases.

The Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return for 2026 is now available.

📎Supporting documents on tax forms

You can now attach supporting documents directly to a tax return for future reference or evidence. Keep everything connected to the right form, so when you need to review a return later, your supporting files are right where you expect them.

Supporting documents are stored in LodgeiT for your internal records only and are not sent to the ATO as part of lodgment.

📩 CC recipients for e-signature requests

You can now add CC recipients to an e-signature request. CC recipients will receive the same document notifications and can view and download the signed document, keeping everyone aligned without extra follow-ups.

✨ Prefill PAYGW for activity statements

LodgeiT now automatically prefills PAYGW details for activity statements, reducing manual entry and helping you lodge faster with fewer errors. A big thank you to everyone who participated in the beta and shared feedback, it helped us refine the experience before release.

📝 Amending tax returns is now simpler

We’ve simplified the amendment process! You can now create a tax return as an amendment right from the start. No need to create an original return first and mark it as lodged, which is especially helpful if the original was lodged in another software.

🤖 Meet our AI assistant 

We’ve also introduced a new AI Assistant in LodgeiT, available via the Support button in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Our AI Assistant is designed to help you get answers faster. It can guide you through LodgeiT features, help troubleshoot and fix errors in tax returns, and help with general ATO-related guidance.

Next time you’re unsure about something or need quick guidance, give it a try. It’s there to help whenever you need it.

A few more enhancements to improve speed and workflow:

• Import depreciation assets directly into the depreciation tool
• Improved performance for tax returns with a large number of worksheets
• Faster printing performance on tax returns
• Sort clients and forms by client code

We’ve added new features to make tax and reporting smoother, smarter, and more secure. Here’s what’s new:

✍️ Attach documents to e-sign

You can now attach supporting documents like invoices or cover letters to any e-signature request in a tax return or financial report. Everything is merged into a single PDF for signing, making the process smoother for your clients. Please note that it is not possible to add signatures to supporting documents. They are included for reference only. 

👤 Client owner as signatory

For firms with multiple partners, you can now set the client owner as the default signatory in practice settings. This lets you show the right name and signature in reports. Learn more.

🖊️ Agent signature on tax return

You can now add your agent’s handwritten signature to a tax return. Simply enable this option when sending for e-signature or when printing the tax return.

📥 Import SMSFAR

You can prefill SMSF tax returns with data from financials. Plus, a new Reconciliation section helps ensure accuracy and reduces manual entry.

🔄 Client sync address mapping

You can now configure how addresses are mapped when syncing clients with QuickBooks Accountant. You can configure it in client sync settings.

🔒 Stronger security 

To meet ATO security requirements, LodgeiT now logs users out automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity. This is a mandatory control designed to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive data.
If you log in with Intuit or Xero, we recommend setting a LodgeiT password in your account settings so you can continue your session without being redirected.

🧪 Prefill PAYGW for activity statements (beta)

We are migrating to the newest ATO activity statements API, which enables prefilling for PAYGW fields. This feature is currently in beta, and we’re inviting users to take part in testing. If you’d like to join, please contact us at support@lodgeit.net.au.

🆕 Other updates

• Added more placeholders for client details in financial reports and legal documents.
• You can now enter decimals in the Business use % field in the car expense worksheet for ITR 2025 onwards.
• Tax return export now includes additional ITR-specific fields: number of days not liable for MLS, occupation details, spouse name, and number of rentals. We’d love your feedback on which other fields you’d like to see included in the export.

📥Import transactions from ATO

You can now import both Income Tax and Integrated Account transactions directly from the ATO in one click — eliminating the need for manual uploads.

✍️E-sign improvements

We’ve expanded your flexibility when requesting signatures:

• Choose to send the request to the Primary contact or someone else.
• When sending to the Primary contact, select from any email addresses on the client record or enter a new one.
• Customise verification requirements: choose no verification, email, date of birth, or phone number, depending on what’s most appropriate or required for security  — even when sending to a non-primary contact.

📧IAS email template

A dedicated email template for Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) is now available, making your communication more relevant and targeted.

📊Updated SMSF member statement

We’ve enhanced the SMSF Member Profit Distribution Statement to give you and your clients more clarity and control over super fund activity. 

Updated report now includes:

• Separate fields for Employer, Personal and Other Contributions.
• Separate fields for Transfers In & Transfers Out.
• Separate fields for Taxes and Pensions & Payments.
